Blot Liturgy

We are regularly reformatting our liturgy to better suit our personal needs as a Kindred.  We will continually update this portion to reflect our recent changes in liturgy.

 

Pre-ritual Briefing

Explains the general flow of the rite, as well as standard etiquette.

Opening 

A short prayer or explanation that is tailored to the individual rite.

Hallowing Prayer / Wéonde Song :  

(Josh F.  and Cat chants the song, while Cat drums.  The others join in for the chorus).

Welcoming the Luck-Givers, Ancestors, and Wights:

Josh F.:

  • Hama: “Hama, from your hall in the Fells, near Bifrost, you watch and listen, standing guard for your kin, the Ese. We assemble today to honor and worship you and the Luck-Givers. We hope that you will hear us and relay our gratitude to the gods and goddesses.  We welcome you here, and we seek your aid to strengthen our abilities and to find others who would add their own for the good of the community. Hail, Hama!”

Lewen:

  • Tiw: “Brave and fearless Tiw, stout of heart, Mighty one! Singing Skyfather, you are like the North star, steadfast, constant, and true. Wise Tiw, God of the Thing,we pray you join us as we honor your deeds and seek your counsel in our affairs. He’ll us to fulfill and keep our oaths. Help us to keep each other accountable in right words and deeds. Tiw, we welcome you. Hail Tiw!

Crystal:

  • Frige: “Mighty Frige, bright lady and chief of the valkyries. You who are strong and demanding, but also fair and generous. You are the keeper of the home and those that tend the hearth fires.You and you alone can rival Woden in his wisdom. From the deepest wells of knowledge, all-knowing Frige, there is no tongue in which to tell, of all that is and that shall be. It is through your influence of love and divination that you help us keep our mundane lives in line with the spiritual.Teach us what wisdom lies beyond the words of men. Hail, Frige!”
  • Neorðu/Eorthan Modor: “Eorthan Modor, with frith in our hearts we honor the bounty that you bestow upon us. May we walk in balance with the great valley and all that share in its bounty. Bless this kindred with your fertile touch so that we may continue to grow as seeds within the community, and with the land. Hail, Eorthan Modor!”

Donald:

  • Thunor: “Son of Woden, Lover of Sib, You who dwell in Bilskirnir, Slayer of Jotuns and Protector of Midenjard, With your might hammer, be present among us.  We welcome you at our rite.  Hail Thunor!”
  • Ing: “Ing, son of Njord, father of kings, patron of married couples. Most beautiful of gods, director of man’s good fortune. Bringer of fruitful seasons, bless this kindred with peace and bounty. Hail, Ing!”

Aurora:

  • Woden: “ Woden, thu ert Eolfader.  All-Father, you fashioned the world from the loins of Ymir. You gifted an eye at Mimir’s Well for one draught of wisdom. Nine Nights on the wind-swept tree did you hang to learn the runes. You gifted men with Kvasir’s Blood [poetry]. Be here now and grant us wisdom and magic. Hail, Woden!”

Josh H:

  • Ancestors: “Long ago, life began.
    From that life, lives emerged. From those lives, our ancestors rose.
    Their actions lead to the birth of our ancient ancestors.
    Our ancient ancestor’s actions lead to our recent ancestors.
    Let us remember those whom we remember.
    Let us acknowledge those we know of, but do not remember.
    Let us praise our ancestors. Let us invite them to be with us.
    Let us remember those who have given their lives in the battlefields near this place.
    Hail our hallowed dead, hail the ancients buried in the hills, hail the valiant ones, and hail the recent dead.
    Hail our ancestors.

Cat:

  • Wights:
    “I call to the Mighty Wīhta of this land
    To Ælfe and Hiddenfolk all
    To those who wander and those who dwell Mighty neighbors upon a mighty earthI call to both Seen and Unseen

Great Valley Kindred Oath Ring – Call and Response

  • Josh F.: “As long as I remain a member of Great Valley Kindred I swear to uphold the frith of the Kindred and make efforts to ensure that the Kindred thrives and it’s worth endures.”
  • All: Hail!

 Offerings

  • The Kindred makes an offering to the main deity of the rite.
  • The Kindred invites guests to make their own offerings.

Symble (Crystal leads the rounds)

We recently reformatted our Symbles to simply be one round in the interest of ritual length. Full Symble’s will be reserved for kindred-only events.

  • One Round: The Gods and Goddesses, with emphasis on the main deity of the rite

Blessing 

Crystal blesses the guests with the mead, Josh blesses Crystal

Blót

Crystal intones:  “wiese ge hal !”   (Be you all Healthy!”)   and the remaining mead is offered to the deities.
